前文的歌詞是一首大家耳熟能詳的聖誕歌曲，是由友人Sanny翻譯的。而照片則是我2003年從英國回來以前在Waterstone買到的聖誕節繪本封面，作者是英國很有名的作家Quentin Blake。Quentin Blake的插畫風格十分特殊，曾為英國著名童書作家Roald Dahl﹙他的作品相當多，台灣讀者最熟悉的應該是《查理與巧克力工廠》吧 :P﹚所有的作品繪製插圖，自己也從事創作，台灣目前也有出版社將他的繪本作品譯成中文。
如果你已經看過上面的歌詞和照片，或許你已經發現，繪本書名和歌詞非常地像。:)
這本繪本叫做《聖誕節的十二天 [書信(版)] 》，內容很簡單。我當初看到書名後面的 [書信(版)] 字樣時覺得有點奇怪，直覺認定這本書應該是別的作品改編過來的，也曾上網找了一下資料，不過瀏覽過後發現看到的都是內文，後來也就忘了。一直到最近，友人Sanny在網路上介紹了一首聖誕歌曲，我才真正了解這本書的有趣之處。
根據Sanny探員的偵查，這首歌是天主教徒為了在宗教迫害的年代將自己的信仰傳承給下一代所做出的「密碼」，歌詞中那位「我的真愛」就是上帝，而真愛所帶來的十二項禮物分別是神之子﹙耶穌基督﹚、舊約及新約聖經、信望愛三教義、新約聖經的前四卷﹙或這四福音的四位作者﹚、摩西五經﹙主要是在講人類為何墮入凡塵﹚、主創造世界的六天、七種聖事﹙洗禮、堅信、聖禮、告解、塗油、敘階和婚姻﹚、八福﹙耶穌登山訓眾所說的八種幸福﹚、聖靈所賜與的九種果實、十誡、十一個忠心的使徒、以及使徒的十二信條。

Quentin Blake把這張「來自上帝的禮物單子」化為一位神密仰慕者的贈禮，而受禮的對象則是一位住在城鎮裡的美麗小姐。想想看，你在聖誕節前夕收到一位神密仰慕者的禮物，第一天是一隻站在梨樹上的鷓鴣鳥、第二天是兩隻鳩、第三天是三隻法國母雞……
我是不知道別人會怎麼做，不過我想，我大概第三天就會報警了。V_V
這本繪本前半是照禮單走的，不過它當然有個很英式的結局﹙如果你知道什麼是冷笑話，你就知道什麼叫英式風格了﹚。在此不便向大家透露結局是什麼，有興趣的人不妨去找來看看咩，真的很可愛喲。^^
